As with the rest of your wedding what you have as your wedding favours is completely down to personal preference. The traditional favours tend to consist of a sachet that contains things such as sweet or sugar covered almonds, but as with wedding cakes, vows and other wedding traditions people are tending to stray away from the tradition in favour of something more to their personal choice. Unlike with other parts of the wedding there are certain things you can do to dramatically reduce the cost of the favours with out effecting the quality, below are some ideas for how to decide what to have as your favours, how to package them and how you can save money;

  • Theme - If your wedding has a set theme then you would more than likely want the favours to incorporate the style of the theme. This would mean that choosing your favours would be fairly easy as you would just have to think of something that showed your personality and also fit in with the theme of the day. An example of this is a wedding with a black and white theme having small contemporary black and white parcels with either chocolates or a small token gift that the guests could keep.
  • Type of favour - When it comes to choosing what type of favour you want to give your guests you need to think about whether or not you want the gift to be something that they eat there or if you want it to be a small token that they can keep from the day. Once you have decided this it will be a lot easier to decide exactly what you want to give them, all that you need to be sure of is that your personality shows through in the favour so if it is a token that you are giving the guests they will automatically associate it with your day.
  • Materials for DIY - There are many options for DIY favours and not all of them need lots of materials to make them especially if you are going for a simple idea such as a sachet with trinkets inside. All you really need if you are on a budget in regards to your favours is the material to make the sachets ( a popular material is voile), your choice of filling (whether that be sweets or small charms for the guests to keep), ribbon and glue. Once you have these materials it is possible for you to make your own favours, the great thing about you making your own favours is that it gives them a personal touch. However, when planning on making your own favours make sure you leave yourself enough time as you don't want them to be rushed.
